You Kickstarted Me

There has been such amazing success stories with Kickstarter beginnings. It is truly an amazing tool to help entrepreneurs find the funding they need. In early fall I was approached to be a part of a campaign called You Kickstarted Me, a book about successful Kickstarters...which in turn was a Kickstarter campaign in itself! I will be doing the book design for this amazing project. As of now the project is live and has almost received 1k in funds. Mosey on over and check out the campaign video in which I also make a small (very very small) cameo.

Antlers are happening

Antlershappen

This is not a new trend by any means, but I have a serious question. Make a serious face, here goes. I like the way antlers look in homes. I like what they add to a space. They are sharp, soft, dimensional and totally gorgeous. With all that in mind, if they were attached to an actual animal face/head/body part it would completely gross me out. Logic would suggest if one made me uncomfortable the other would as well. This is not the case. This is an ethical dilemma I am plagued with. Buy the antlers, feel guilty about it. Not buy the antlers, find something else to hang.

I love my husband, he makes an honest effort to dress well. This is a guy who honestly and truly wants to shop for new cardigans. For Christmas I thought I would get him a custom made shirt at Taylor Stitch on Valencia. We often pass by when we hit up Four Barrel on our weekends and oogle it from the outside in.

I went in one night after work and had a chat with the gentlemen that run the shop. All of them totally cute and totally  helpful. I mentioned that I needed the shirt by the 23rd as I was jet setting off to the tropical and sunny land of Maine. As luck would have it, they are from Maine and would be in town the same time as us. What are the chances? Before I even knew their names they were offering us a ride from the airport and inviting us to a pub crawl in Portland the day after Christmas. Offering a chance to get drunk together? That is customer service I can get behind.

Because I was getting a custom made shirt that my guy couldn't know about we had to be sneaky. I brought in one of JP's best fitting shirts and we went from there. We picked out some sweet details, a monogram and a beautiful blue organic cotton fabric.

Panic started to set in when the shirt had not arrived the day before we were set to fly out. Turns out it was on the truck that was going to be arriving 10 minutes after our flight took off. Bummer. But I had an idea. I knew they were flying out on the same day but in the evening. I asked Mike (totally friendly pub-crawling business owner Mike) if he could bring the shirt to Maine and we could arrange a drop off.

Do you think I sound like a crazy person yet? Well apparently he did not because he said totally!! Dude took my shirt to Maine! We met in the middle, a little town called Bath (that has a landmark called the chocolate church btw.) and did the exchange at a pub while JP was buying gloves. We exchanged a beautiful, custom tailored shirt like some people exchange crack. It was magic. These guys are legit. Hands down the bust customer service I've ever experienced. Thanks again Mike, you totally saved my ass.

The shirt looks beautiful, and JP totally loves it. Visit their shop on Valencia or you can view their website here.

Here is the thing. This collection its super dreamy. This is a girl I can relate with. It is cute without being precious, dressy but not prissy, she cares but doesn't care that much. I get it. I love it. But it is at Target.

I have only purchased one thing from a Target capsule collection and it was a homewares item. I find the quality is usually lacking. Or there is a crazy stocking/shipping/service issue as with the Missoni disaster. Will these pieces even see a sales floor? The mob mentality that has gained momentum behind these collections is something I also find troubling. I like these things, but not enough to push and shove for them. Nothing is glamorous when you have to elbow your way through a crowd to get it.

....maybe this is why I shop online so much.
