VIBE: Sideways

In a word, my bedroom sucks. Until I moved into my Mission street studio a few months ago, my bedroom was my homeoffice. Nothing says romance like paperwork! Now I have an empty corner where my computer was, an empty shelf that was home to piles of paper samples, and nails in my wall where pictures used to hang. This needs to change. My new years resolution is to make my bedroom a grown up bedroom. I came up with that term while watching Sex in the City. I have no soul. These lovely spaces are my inspiration.

I love the open space in this room. That awesome headboard is doing everyone a big favor by being so awesome. Its very neutral and grey... like my entire apartment!

There will have to be some sort of small homeoffice space to I can pay my billz and what not. I like this kind of organized clutter. Maybe half the size. That black wall is calling me home.

The bed linens are what I'm after in this room. I could incorporate a pillow or two.

I just need to move to a place where I can paint every wall black. The bedside tables are so chic here. No fuss with storage just a pile o' books, some flowers, a lamp and we are set. There are some conditions with this project I should mention. I have to keep our crazy black our curtains. We live in an apartment building that faces grossness with gross light and gross walls so that is a fact. We also need to keep our current bedding. 1. because it was expensive  and 2. because I love it.  so here is where I've gone with the plan so far.

My DIY Tree

We are going to be spending Christmas in Maine this year. This means getting a tree for our house didn't make any sense unless we just wanted the cat to destroy it while we are gone. I made this litte tree on our wall above my mid century bench where I store my magazines (I am a crazy magazine lady btw). It is made of bakers twine, thumb tacks, ribbon, gold pipe cleaners (ftw!) and bits of real tree, so you know its good. Jack was playing and jumped into this shot, the look on is face is priceless.

DYI: Ornaments

This week I took Martha's advice and made some Christmas ornaments.

I found some glass ornaments at the craft store, got some awesome paint and had myself a frustrating two days making these. The process is fairly simple.

Thin your paint colors with a clear gloss

Pour a little into the ornament

Mix with another color and set upside down on a stick stuck in some styrofoam to dry.

Wait until it is dry and touch up as needed.

This is not an afternoon type craft, it is more of a two day wait it out situation. I must say I am pleased with out they turned out. They came out all marble-y and glorious. I wrapped them up with some sparkles and twine and then took nap out of frustration.
